Review of Event by David Lynn Goleman

Let me start by saying that I really did like this book. It’s a great idea, a secret group, the Event Group, looks into history’s biggest mysteries. The mystery involved here is the UFO crash in Roswell, New Mexico. Evidence of the crash was stolen away from them by a competing group before they could ever study it, but there’s been another crash, this time in Arizona. The search is on to find it before anyone else does and recover any debris, alien bodies or survivors.

At heart, it’s a fairly good action/adventure/monster story, but being Goleman’s first book, it falls short in other areas. It took me two weeks to read this book, which is unusual for me. If a book really catches my interest, I’m usually done in 3 to 5 days, depending on how busy I am. I found it to be overly wordy and descriptive, which left me easily distracted. It also lacked really great character development, so I didn’t feel overly attached to any of the characters and didn’t care if they lived or died.

That said, I probably will read the second book in the Event Group series, Legend,so I can see how Mr. Goleman has progressed as a writer. It’s a good read if you can keep with it, so it does go on my recommended book list.
