Review of Altar of Eden by James Rollins
I’ve been a fan of James Rollins for some time now and I always look forward to each new book. His latest book is Altar of Eden,an action thriller that satisfies on so many levels.
Dr. Lorna Polk is a veterinarian who works for research facility specializing in endangered species. She’s called to the wreck of a fishing trawler by US Border Patrol Agent Jack Menard, a man Lorna shares a dark past with, one she thought she had put behind her. The trawler contains an odd collection of mutated animals who appear to have a heightened intelligence. A saber toothed jaguar has escaped the wreck and they need to find it before it gets to the mainland and kills more people. What starts as a desperate hunting expedition becomes far more complicated when the creators of the animals decide to collect the ones that are still alive. When Lorna is taken hostage, she learns just how far these scientists have gone in trying to genetically engineer a perfect species and Jack will risk everything to rescue her before it’s too late.
While I totally enjoy the Sigma novels, it’s always refreshing to read something unrelated, but just as amazing. Sigma is even mentioned in passing, so you don’t feel like they were totally left out, but you don’t mind their absence. Alter of Eden is one of those epic adventure novels that James Rollins is so good at writing and that I am always thrilled to read.
