Review of The Modern Fae’s Guide to Surviving Humanity edited by Joshua Palmatier and Patricia Bray

I bought The Modern Fae’s Guide to Surviving Humanityspecifically for the Barbara Ashford story, but all the stories were great. Since there’s not enough space to cover all the stories, I’ll cover my favorites.

We Will Not Be Undersold by Seanan McGuire – Fae Nimh works for a large box store named Undermart. Dan is the human she’s in love with and he also works for Undermart in the toy department. When Dan figures out something strange is going on with the employee¬†greeters, he goes to confront management and ends up in Faery, Nimh fears she’ll lose him forever. But Dan proves his worth when he comes up with a scheme to save his life and stay with Nimh.

How To Be Human by Barbara Ashford – Fae Finn has made it his life’s work to help people be more HUMAN (Halt hurtful habits. Unleash your potential. Manifest your possibilities. Affirm your transformation. Nurture your new self.) with his self help seminars. But he feels no compassion for the people he’s trying to help, something his assistant Penny points out just before she quits. But after some youths of his own kind threaten Penny, he finds out that he cares more than he realized.

Fixed by Jean Marie Ward – Half breed feline shifter fae Jack ends up at a shelter after almost being caught by a dog. His rescuer, Rika, wants to make sure he’s okay. When the veterinarian shows up, she declares Jack needs surgery immediately and plans to ‘fix’ him. Jack tries to escape, but not before the full fae doctor almost gets him. Rika will prove his saviour in more ways than one.

There were lots of other great stories in this anthology, so if you like any of the many authors with stories in this book, pick yourself up a copy today.
